Kris stopped by on her way to town to drop the lavender plant (thanks, Eric!) and water bottle I had left when Yulie and I spent the night Saturday night*. Musi, her driver, called out “Mwachena! Red and black!” (I am wearing a black skirt and an orangey-rusty-reddish colored top. Kris pointed out that my shirt is orange, and Musi said, “Oh, no, please don’t make it orange. Make it red.” Then Musi complained that I didn’t have a red headband like Kris. Kris said, “Yes, we Americans need to communicate more about our clothing choices. Communication is a problem, Musi.” Musi then said that Kris and I should always be coordinating, and Kris told her coworkers in the back that she thought Musi is “somehow misala [crazy]”

It’s going to be a real problem if Kris and I have to coordinate: I don’t have nearly enough black. Maybe it will be ok if we only coordinate on days when Musi will see both of us.

*It’s one of those things you have to get used to here: even though Kris and I live in the same city, she’s far enough away that in order for us to have dinner together we have to spend the night, or else take a prohibitively expensive cab ride.
