Wish you could see

In a country known for its interesting fashion sense, I saw what is perhaps the best outfit ever. Believe me when I say this guy has a lot of competition here. To start with, while gender roles are even more rigidly adhered to here, the whole concept of pink being a girl’s colour seems to have failed to translate. I have seen a very serious man walking down the street with a pink and purple floral hat, the brim folded up and fastened with a shiny flower pin. It looked as though he got it from Blossom. It is not uncommon to see guys wearing as muscle shirts hot pink baby tees printed with a sparkly curlicue “Princess”. It’s not ironic either.
I’ve seen people wearing ear buds as fashion accessories—the wire after the y-junction cut and dangling like a pendant. My favorite purposeful fashion, though, is short fat ties. Here is a picture of Raymond wearing a short fat tie, to try to make up for my failing to take a picture of the awesomeness that I saw the other day.
You can see that it would be difficult to surpass all this fashion-forward awesomeness. And yet, as I was leaving the Metro (that would be the store, not a bus or a subway or other form of transport), just focusing on my disappointment that Zomba is out of tuna (and brown flour, but that’s neither here nor there at the moment) when I saw an older gentleman approaching. I stopped, dumbfounded, or impressed, or something.
The gentleman, svelte and suave, was wearing royal purple trousers, and it only got better from there. His jacket was purple with pale purple pinstripes and, even better (although it is difficult to get even better than purple pinstripes) , it was zoot-suit style. I can’t decide, though, which of his accessories was the best. There was the giant gold cross pendant, and then in his hand he carried a thin, spiral carved cane shined up with boot black. On his head he wore a purple velvety fedora. With a feather in. I think he also had a pencil mustache, but that may just be wishful thinking on my part.
